If you are looking for peace and solitude, Casa Santo Stefano is the place for you. The hotel, which is located in a typical Ticino village on a sunny slope, appears quite sparse and sober at first glance. The eight rooms are spread over two houses and furnished in a minimalist style: Simple wooden beds, blue and white bed linen and curtains, a country-style wardrobe, a table, two chairs – there is nothing unnecessary in the rooms. There is no trace of televisions, radios or music systems far and wide. Casa Santo Stefano restricts itself to the essentials and thus creates a pure atmosphere to switch off and come down. This is true luxury, just like the freshly baked brioche that wafts through the rooms in the morning, or the jams cooked by the chef himself. When you first bite into the freshly baked brioche with rhubarb and elderflower jam, things like the swimming pool or the TV seem absolutely unimportant. It’s a similar experience when you come back from a hike through Malcantone in the evening and sit down on the terrace under the pergola, put your feet up and reward yourself with the sweet Americana grapes growing just an arm’s length away. Casa Santo Stefano does not offer dinner, but the hosts Angeli and Christian Wehrli help you organise it and provide you with insider tips about the best restaurants in the region.
